Overview

• Travel contract in Long Beach, California.
• 13-week assignment.
• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week.

Unit

• ICU
• 32 beds, licensed for 40, set up in pods of 8

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license for California
• BLS
• ACLS
• 2 full years of ICU experience
• Available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of ICU experience

Clinical Details

• Patient ratio: 2:1
• Floating: Tele and any ED ICU/Tele holds
• Common patient types include neuro, cardiac, PCI, sepsis, ETOH, stroke, ventrics, TBI, and Camino ICP monitoring
• Drips include pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation
• Ventilator care is included

Schedule and Work Environment

• Every other weekend
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• Charge nurse has no patient assignment
• Resource RN may take a patient assignment
• Usually 1 nurse aide on days only
• No monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own strips
• Hospitalist or intensivist in house
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• Orientation includes 8 hours with the ICU educator and 16 hours with a preceptor
