Role Overview

• Labor and Delivery RN
• 13-week contract
• Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
• 36 hours per week guaranteed

Required Qualifications

• Compact or Wisconsin RN license
• ACLS
• BLS
• AWHONN
• NRP
• Minimum of 1 year OB experience
• Must be able to work labor & delivery, post-partum, mom/babe couplets, and well baby nursery
• Must be comfortable taking post-surgicals on the OB unit
• Must be able to titrate drips

Preferred Qualifications

• AWHONN EMF Intermediate certification
• STABLE
• Some MedSurg background

Unit Details

• Department: Labor & Delivery
• 6 LDRP beds
• No OR suites on the unit for C-sections; C-sections are done in Main OR
• No triage beds
• No postpartum beds
• About 17 births per month; 220 per year
• Follows AWHONN guidelines for ratios
• Common patient types include labor, delivery, post-partum, and mom/babe couplets
• Cares for patients over 34 weeks; under 34 weeks are transferred out
• Does not do VBACs or TOLACs
• Well baby nursery can handle IV ABX, IV dextrose, feeders/growers, and bili babies
• Can take post-surgical patients such as post-appe and post-chole on the unit
• No charge nurse on shift
• No techs or aides on the unit
• OB/Neonatologist is in house during the day Monday through Friday, and on-call after hours and on weekends/holidays
• Anesthesia is in house during the day Monday through Friday, and on-call after hours and on weekends/holidays
• Tele/Monitor Techs are available; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• EFM system: OBIX

Scheduling

• Manager sets the schedule
• Schedule is posted about 2 months in advance, 4 weeks at a time
• Every 3rd weekend required: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
• Every 3rd holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Must work Christmas

Floating

• May float to MedSurg as helping hands when OB is closed

Orientation

• 2 shifts of OB department orientation
