Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU - Progressive Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Unit: Surgical PCU


Job Details

  • EPIC experience required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Patient ratio currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
  • Travelers expected to float as needed within acuity levels
  • All Return to Office (RTO) requests must be submitted upfront

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
  • HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • State License verification (NURSYS verification required for RNs)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – as applicable
  • Competency Exams – as applicable
  • Core Parts I, II, III (annual updates required for subcontractors)

Required Documents & Compliance

  • I9 or attestation
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be within 100 miles of facility)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • Pre-Start Education Modules (7.5 hours, to be completed before start)
    • Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters)
    • Access and Confidentiality Agreement (time sensitive)
    • New Hire Paperwork
    • Fit Testing Form (if applicable)
    • Contract Staff Orientation Manual (review prior to start)
    • Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation (signature required for inpatient RNs)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year (must confirm free from communicable diseases)
  • Fit Mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) or clear Chest X-Ray if previously positive, updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire (required for all candidates)
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination/Documentation (required for 2024-2025 flu season, exemptions allowed)

Background & Verification

  • 7-year Background Check within 1 year of start (all locations lived/worked)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated with renewals
  • 2 clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Complete Employment Application and Skills Checklist (updated annually)
  • Transcript/Diploma verification for ER/PCU/TCU, Behavioral Health, and RRTs
  • Education Verification of highest earned degree

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and certifications timely to avoid delays in start date.
  • Floating within acuity levels is expected for all travelers.
  • Compliance with Carilion Clinic’s policies and procedures is mandatory.
