Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12 hour days, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Unit: 24-bed Telemetry Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient Focus: Hospitalist Medicine patients, with emphasis on renal and various medical diagnoses; also covers GI, Pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients under Hospitalist care
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Start Date: ASAP preferred
Required Experience & Skills
- Epic electronic health record (EHR) experience required
- Ability to care for a diverse patient population with complex medical needs
Certifications Required
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I-9 or attestation
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID (must be within 100 miles of facility)
- E-Verify or attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- State nursing license verification (NURSYS verification required for RNs)
- Primary source verification within 30 days of start
- Background check (7-year, all locations lived/worked) within 1 year of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Employment application and skills checklist
- Education verification of highest earned degree (transcript/diploma may be required)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit test for masks within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (with exemptions allowed)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Pre-start education modules (approx. 7.5 hours) to be completed before start date
- Professional photo for badge (plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature required for inpatient RNs at this facility
- Fit testing and other facility-specific compliance documents as applicable
- Radiation badges for new candidates are supplied by the facility, not Aya Healthcare
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and compliance steps promptly to avoid delays in start date
- Driver’s license/state ID address must be within 100 miles of the facility or contract will be canceled
- Orientation manual not required for inpatient RNs at all locations as of 7/10/23
