Description
Registered Nurse (PCU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Unit: Surgical PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5, goal 1:4
Floating: Travelers expected to float as needed within acuity
Requirements
- EPIC experience required
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- Licensure:
- Valid RN license with primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
- Other Certifications (as applicable):
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI (for Behavioral Health & ER Behavioral Health Annex)
- Competencies:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Core Parts I, II, III (annual updates required)
- Background Checks & Compliance:
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- 2 clinical references required
- Employment application/resume required
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Immunizations or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required for 2024-25 flu season (with exemptions allowed)
- Fit test for mask within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Facility Specific:
- Professional photo for badge (plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Completion of pre-start education modules (up to 7.5 hours) for inpatient RN candidates before start date
- Completion of Carilion compliance and access forms within 48 hours of signing
- Fit testing form completion required (except for students)
- Signature on Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation (inpatient RNs at this facility)
- Review of Contract Staff Orientation Manual (not required for inpatient RNs as of 7/10/23)
Additional Notes
- All Return to Office (RTO) documentation must be submitted upfront with application
- Candidates must provide a valid Driver’s License or State ID within 48 hours of signing; address must be within 100 miles of the facility or candidate will be canceled
- Travelers should be prepared to float as needed within acuity levels on the unit
This position is ideal for RNs with PCU experience, EPIC proficiency, and the required certifications who are comfortable working night shifts in a surgical progressive care setting.
