Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: ASAP preferred


Job Details

  • Unit: 9SPCU (24-bed Telemetry PCU)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour days, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Patient Focus: Hospitalist Medicine patients, with emphasis on renal and various medical diagnoses
  • Also serves as an alternative unit for GI, Pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients covered by Hospitalists
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
  • Epic experience required

Required Certifications

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • I9 or attestation
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID within 48 hours of signing (must be within 100 miles of facility)
  • E-Verify or attestation
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • State License primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RNs within 30 days of start
  • Background check (7 years, within 1 year of start)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • 2 clinical references required
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Education verification of highest earned degree (transcript/diploma may be required)

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Pre-Start Education Modules (7.5 hours) for inpatient RN candidates, to be completed by Friday before start
  • Professional photo for badge (plain background, no selfies or filters)
  • Carilion Access and Confidentiality Agreement to be completed within 48 hours of signing
  • New hire paperwork completed prior to start
  • Fit testing form completion required (fit test must be within 1 year and updated annually)
  • Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature required for inpatient RNs at this facility
  • Physical exam within 1 year stating freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required for 2024-25 flu season (with exemptions allowed)

Additional Notes

  • Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs as of 7/10/23)
  • VA State Police Search completed onsite first day for certain candidates (home health, hospice, and specific hospitals)
  • Radiation badges are no longer provided by Aya for new candidates; facility supplies badges if needed

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with Epic experience who are comfortable managing a 1:5 patient ratio in a hospitalist medicine setting. Compliance with all certifications, documentation, and facility-specific requirements is mandatory for assignment start and continuation.
