Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Schedule
- Unit: 12 West (Telemetry PCU)
- Specialty: Care and management of hospitalist medicine patients, including stroke and neurology patients
- Stroke/Neuroscience unit is a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
- Floating required as needed within acuity
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- State RN License (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification (for all RNs, within 30 days of start)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation required
- Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing; must be within 100 miles of facility
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Residency Declaration Form if working on a compact license
- Background Check: 7 years, must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for renewals
- 2 clinical references required
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Transcript/Diploma required for ER/PCU/TCU, ER/Behavioral Health, and RRTs
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Pre-Start Education Modules (7.5 hours) for inpatient RN candidates, to be completed by Friday before start
- Professional photo for badge (plain background, no selfies or filters)
- Carilion Access and Confidentiality Agreement must be completed within 48 hours of signing
- New Hire Paperwork must be completed prior to start
- Fit Testing Form required regardless of prior fit test status (not required for SPTs only)
- Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature required for inpatient RNs at this facility
- Radiation Badge: Not provided by Aya for new candidates; supplied by facility if needed
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit Mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year, updated annually; or clear chest X-ray if past positive
- TB Questionnaire required for all candidates
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination/Documentation required for 2024-25 flu season (with exemptions allowed)
Additional Notes
- All Return to Office (RTO) documentation must be submitted upfront with application
- Floating within acuity levels is expected for all travelers
- Some certifications and competencies may be required depending on the specific unit or specialty; verify as applicable
