Location: Fremont, California

Unit Details

• Unit: L&D/PP/MB (Maternal Child Health)
• L&D Beds: 18 LDRP
• OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Triage Beds: 2
• Postpartum Beds: 18 LDRP + 8 overflow
• Births: 100-140 per month
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Labor: AWHONN guidelines followed
  • Postpartum: State ratio 1:4

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Experience & Skills Required

• Experience with vaginal exams
• Circulating C-sections
• AWHONN fetal monitoring
• Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin, insulin)

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse usually without patient assignment
• Nurse aides and surgical techs available on unit
• OB available 24/7
• Pediatric hospitalist available 24/7
• Neonatologist on day shift, on-call otherwise
• Anesthesia available 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment available (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
• Telemetry techs monitor strips; RNs not required to read their own strips
• Tele monitors: Phillips
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Epic

Scheduling & Orientation

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts, assigned to meet unit needs (no self or block scheduling)
• Weekend and holiday coverage as needed
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating to postpartum in rotation
• Orientation: 3 shifts (12-hour nights)
• Dress code: Hospital-provided scrubs

• Client requires profile review process including clinical questionnaire and review before presentation
• Common patient diagnoses: Pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes
