Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 15
• Staffing: 22 (RN/PCT)
• Shift Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 3-4 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 Clinical Coordinator
  • Night Shift: 3-4 RNs, 1 PCT
• Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients per nurse
• Equipment Used:

  • Cardiac Telemetry
  • Chest tubes
  • Cardiac drips (NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
  • Post cardiac catheterization patients
  • Post-surgical patients including open heart, lung, general surgery, and post-op orthopedic patients requiring cardiac monitoring
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Skills and Experience

• Must Have:

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients
  • Chest tube management and epidurals
• Preferred:

  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Effective time management in a high patient turnover environment

Typical Procedures on Unit

• Post cardiac catheterization care
• Electrophysiology (EP) studies
• Device placements and groin management
• Chest tube care
• Post-operative surgical patient care
• Management of critical drips, epidurals, and PCA (patient-controlled analgesia)

Personality Fit

• Outgoing and team-oriented
• Willing to go above and beyond for patients

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Floating Areas

• ICU (taking PCU-type patients)
• PCU
• Med-surg (taking 5 patients)

Dress Code

• Scrubs: Navy or white, mix and match allowed

Scheduling

• Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per contract
