Description
Registered Nurse - MICU
Location: Rochester, New York
Facility: Rochester General Hospital, The NeuroMedical Center
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: August 12, 2025
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Distance Requirement: Must live more than 75 miles from facility (no locals accepted)
First Time Travelers: Accepted
Unit & Patient Population
- Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
- 16 beds
- Patient conditions include: sepsis, ARDS, renal failure, heart failure, pre-VAD workups, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, multi-organ failure, post cardiac arrest/targeted temperature management, respiratory failure/shock, CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO, Impella
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:2, occasionally 1:1 based on acuity
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
- ACLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable)
- PALS (if required by unit)
- NRP (if required by unit)
- TNCC (if required by unit)
- EFM (if required by unit)
- HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Verification (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit, updated annually)
Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as required)
- Color Blind Testing (one-time requirement)
- Competency Exam (as required by specialty)
Facility Specific Requirements
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge
- Completion of Rochester Regional orientation modules (approx. 4-6 hours) prior to start
- Pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
- Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive, completed series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Snellen eye exam within 1 year (not required annually)
- COVID vaccination documentation preferred but not required
Background & Employment History
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (includes SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
- Minimum of 2 employment references
- Employment application required
- Annual skills checklist
- Education verification from primary source (including foreign equivalency if applicable)
- Verification of at least 2 past employments (dates, location, role, type of employment)
State Specific Requirements (New York)
- NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable)
- Staff Exclusion List (SEL) check within 3 months and monthly thereafter
- Fingerprint-based criminal background check for certain units (Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, LTC) - may be required
- Disciplinary action search for certain units - may be required
- Sex Offender Registry check within 30 days of start
