Registered Nurse (MICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Rochester, New York
Facility: Rochester General Hospital, The NeuroMedical Center
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: 8/12/25
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Travel Radius: Must be over 75 miles from facility (no locals accepted)
First Time Travelers: Accepted

Unit & Patient Population

• Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
• 16 beds
• Patient conditions include: sepsis, ARDS, renal failure, heart failure, pre-VAD workups, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, multi-organ failure, post cardiac arrest/targeted temperature management, respiratory failure/shock
• Advanced therapies: CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO, Impella
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2, occasionally 1:1 based on acuity

Licensure & Certifications Required

• New York RN License (must have license in hand, no exceptions)
• ACLS (AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable)
• BLS (AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable)
• PALS (AHA provider/instructor/RQI acceptable)
• NRP (as required by unit)
• TNCC (as required by unit)
• EFM (as required by unit)
• HIPAA Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• State License Verification (primary source verification within 30 days of start)
• NURSYS Verification (within 30 days of start)
• NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit, annual update)

Competencies & Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as required)
• Color Blind Testing (required once)
• Competency Exam (as required by specialty)

Facility Specific Requirements

• Passport-style photo for badge
• Completion of Rochester Regional orientation modules (approx. 4-6 hours) prior to start
• Pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (annual update)
• Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask types accepted; PAPR allowed if failed)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with follow-up requirements for positives)
• TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive or completed series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug testing within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
• COVID vaccination documentation preferred but not required

Background & Employment History

• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (includes SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
• Minimum of 2 employment references
• Employment application required
• Annual skills checklist
• Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Verification of at least 2 past employments (dates, location, role, employment type)
• Academic verification from third party (no hard copy degrees accepted)

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

• NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable)
• NY Staff Exclusion List (OMIG) check within 3 months and monthly thereafter
• Fingerprint results and disciplinary action search for certain units (Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, LTC) – check if applicable
• Sex Offender Registry search within 30 days of start
