Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Facility: Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
Hospital System: Carilion Clinic

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Schedule
- Unit: 8MPCU (Hospitalist Unit / General Medicine PCU)
- Shift: 3x 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
- Floating: Travelers expected to float to other PCU units and potentially Med Surg
Requirements
- EPIC experience is required
- Must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation upfront with submittal
- Local traveler eligibility based on distance from facility (drivers license address)
- Must provide a valid driver’s license/state ID within 48 hours of signing to confirm eligibility
- Compact license holders require a Residency Declaration Form
Certifications (AHA ONLY unless otherwise noted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – as applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Behavioral Health & ER Behavioral Health Annex
- State License Primary Source Verification (within 30 days of start)
- NURSYS Verification (for all RNs, within 30 days of start)
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors; HIPAA testing or signed form required, updated annually)
Health & Safety Documents
- Physical Exam within 1 year, free from communicable diseases
- Fit Mask Test within 1 year, updated annually (not required for students)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year, updated annually
- TB Questionnaire (required for all candidates)
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or masking during flu season
Background & History
- 7-year Background Check within 1 year of start (not required annually unless 30+ day break in assignments)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Complete Employment Application/Resume required
- Skills Checklist updated annually
- Transcript/Diploma required for ER/PCU/TCU, ER/Behavioral Health, and RRTs
- Education Verification of highest earned degree required
Facility Specific Requirements
- Professional photo for badge (no selfies or filters, plain background)
- Compliance Checklist and Fair Credit Reporting Acknowledgment (as applicable)
- Access and Confidentiality Agreement (must be completed within 48 hours of signing)
- New Hire Paperwork must be completed prior to start
- Fit Testing Form must be completed regardless of prior fit test on file (not required for students)
- Contract Staff Orientation Manual review (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Carilion Pain Assessment Expectation signature required for inpatient RNs at this facility
- Radiation Badge: New candidates must obtain badge from client (not provided by Aya)
Additional Notes
- Virginia State Police Search completed onsite first day for Home Health, Hospice, and select facilities
- Local traveler rules apply based on distance from facility (see requirements above)
This position is ideal for RNs with hospitalist/general medicine PCU experience, EPIC proficiency, and flexibility to float within PCU and Med Surg units.
