Cardiac Telemetry Nurse - Tower 7 (Phoenix, AZ)

Unit & Facility Overview

  • Unit: Cardiac Telemetry - Tower 7
  • Hospital size: 607 beds, nationally recognized tertiary care center
  • Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma center
  • Teaching hospital with nursing students
  • Specialty areas include lung, liver, kidney transplants, and association with Barrow Neuro Institute (#1 neuro institute)

Contract Details

  • Minimum contract length: 13 weeks
  • Start date: November
  • Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holidays)
  • No concurrent contracts allowed within the system
  • Must have been off permanent staff at this system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of core experience in specialty submitted
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
  • Cerner EMR experience required for ED
  • BLS certification required
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
  • Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes (except some units)
  • Must pass Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
  • Natural hair color only; no facial piercings; men must be clean-shaven for fit test

Unit Specifics

  • Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:3 or 1:4
  • Patient types: Post-op cardiovascular surgery patients (CABG, MVR, STEMI, HF, Fundoplication, VATS Decordication, vascular repair)
  • RNs required to titrate drips: Yes (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
  • Telemetry techs monitor off-unit; RNs must interpret common rhythms
  • Telemetry monitors: GE tele packs and monitors
  • Charge/resource nurse ideally does not take patient assignments
  • Patient care techs: 1 PCT per 16 beds
  • Respiratory equipment used: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Self-scheduling allowed with balanced shifts by scheduler
  • Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week block
  • Holiday shifts required (2 out of 4 major holidays)
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating to other applicable areas as needed
  • Scrub color: Navy blue (scrubs not provided)
  • Unit orientation: 2 days
  • Night shifts: 12-hour shifts, 4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks

Additional Notes

  • Travel teams must have their own vehicles
  • Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility (garage for night shift)
  • Strict onboarding deadline: all paperwork must be complete by Wednesday 1pm CST before start date or start will be delayed
  • Candidates not competent in sterile field maintenance or Foley/central line skills likely not a good fit
  • Facility enforces strict policies on appearance and conduct
