Job Opportunity: RN Surgery (Travel)

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Job Description

  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA certification mandatory)
  • CNOR PLUS (Certified Perioperative Nurse) preferred
  • Flexible shift times: 06:50 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Call schedule: Based on department needs; currently every other day and every other weekend, including extended weekend shifts from Friday 3:00 PM to Monday 7:00 AM, plus holidays as assigned
  • Experience working in PACU, GI, Pre/Post-op, ENT, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Podiatry preferred
  • EPIC electronic health record system experience required
  • May need to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles as needed

Required Credentials & Compliance

  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Current RN license with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment
    • BLS (American Heart Association)
    • Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start
    • CNOR PLUS preferred
  • Onboarding & Testing:
    • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics) completed within a year, updated yearly, minimum 80% score
    • Ascension Specialty Exam in area of specialization, minimum 80% or national benchmark passing score, updated every 3 years
    • Ascension EKG Exam with passing score of at least 80%
    • Ascension Epic Test-Out with training checklist and signed attestation
    • Ascension Skills Checklist completed within one year of start, updated annually
  • Health & Immunizations:
    • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement
    • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
    • Fit Test: Required annually; specific mask types required for WI and MI
    • TB Screening: Positive IGRA or PPD results, negative chest X-ray within one year, and annual TB questionnaire
    • Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Background & Verification:
    • Criminal background check including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check, updated annually or after breaks in service >90 days
    • Employment verification for past 7 years
    • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
    • Drug screening: 12 panel urine drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Driver’s license or state ID valid and matching address requirements
    • Professional references: at least two prior to first assignment
    • Ascension onboarding requirements and attestations completed prior to start

Work Environment & Expectations

  • May be required to float to other units or facilities within 40 miles
  • Call and holiday coverage as assigned
  • Use of EPIC electronic health record system

This position is ideal for experienced perioperative RNs with flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to work across multiple surgical specialties and units.
