ER Nurse Travel Opportunity - California (San Bernardino)
Job Overview
- Position: Experienced ER Nurse (Travel Contract)
- Location: San Bernardino, California
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Fast Track: Yes, operates in a separate area; travelers typically work in main ER
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (06:45-19:15 / 18:45-07:15), with some flexibility required; day shifts include 7a, 9a, 12p starts; night shifts include 3p, 7p starts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday counted as weekend), possibly every weekend depending on staffing
- Holidays: Included in permanent staff rotation; expect to work holidays
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years ER nursing experience (trauma experience preferred)
- Active California nursing license
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Open to first-time travelers
Patient Care & Environment
- ER Beds: 24 beds, no trauma bays
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Private room available if needed; overflow room accommodates 4 patients
- Patient Volume: Approximately 250 visits per day
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 2:1 to 4:1
- Common Diagnoses: STEMI, cardiac issues, sepsis, alcohol-related cases, stroke, DKA, and a wide variety of patients
- No inpatient pediatric or behavioral health units
Team & Support
- Charge Nurse: Present, does not take patients
- ER Techs: Assist with tech duties and patient sitters/security
- Respiratory Therapists: Available 24/7, maintain ventilators
- Physicians/Mid-Levels: MDs, PAs, NPs on staff
- Phlebotomists: Available for lab draws except central lines
- IV Team: None
- Pharmacy: 24/7 availability
Technology & Equipment
- EMR System: Cerner PowerChart
- Tele/Monitor Techs: 22 hardwired monitors (GE), located in rooms and nurse stations
- Ventilators: Present and maintained by RTs
Orientation & Training
- Floor-specific orientation: 1 day
Additional Notes
- Care is divided into three parts: fast track, treatment and disposition anticipation, and acute care
- No floating required
- Scrub Colors: RNs wear blue, techs wear green
