Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Rochester, NY

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Location: Rochester, New York

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except birthing units & OR)
  • Pending license not accepted
  • Locals accepted only if living more than 75 miles away
  • Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions
  • Float required when census warrants
  • Work schedule includes every other weekend
  • Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • General Emergency Department care (combined Adult/Pediatrics)
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care and management
  • Phlebotomy and IV starts
  • Continuous IV paralytics and sedation
  • Administration of emergency medications and IV vasopressors
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Care for stroke (CVA) patients
  • Adherence to isolation precautions
  • Epic charting system preferred

Patient Ratios

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:5 with mixed/shared acuity levels

Uniform

  • Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, updated monthly
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees accepted)
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/diploma if education verification is not on file
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for some candidates
  • Employment application and work history verification (at least 2 past employments)
  • Skills checklist annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blind testing (one-time)
  • Competency exams as required by specialty/profession
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement

Health & Safety Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (annual) with acceptable mask types or PAPR if failed
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (surface antibody positive titer, completed series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (not annual)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year (not annual)
  • COVID-19 vaccination documentation preferred but not required

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start for certain care areas
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results for specific units (Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, LTC)
  • NYS Disciplinary Action Search for specific units
  • NYS Sex Offender Registry Search within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, updated monthly

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic Emergency Department setting with a supportive team and a variety of clinical challenges. Candidates must be prepared to meet all compliance and health requirements promptly to ensure a smooth onboarding process.
