Neurology Rehab Nurse Opportunity

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Neuro Rehab
Unit Size: 52 beds
Hospital Size: 607 beds
Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma
EMR: Cerner


Job Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum
  • Experience Required:
    • 2 years of core experience in Neurology Rehab or related specialty
    • Level 1 Trauma experience required
    • Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
  • Certifications:
    • RN with BLS and FIM certifications
    • Tech with BLS and FIM certifications
  • Patient Population:
    • Approximately 90% neuro patients
    • Common diagnoses: TBI, brain tumor resection, CVA, lung transplant, liver transplant
  • Shift Details:
    • RN ratio: 1:6
    • Tech ratio: 1:8
    • Tech start times: 6:30 AM, 3:00 PM, 11:30 PM
    • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 8 weeks
    • Holidays: Work integrated into core rotation (2 out of 4 major holidays)
    • 12-hour night shifts available
  • Orientation:
    • Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts
    • Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab on Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes (except Neuro ICU & ED with modified requirements)
  • Floating: Yes, to any MedSurg unit
  • Work Environment:
    • Teaching hospital with nursing students
    • Interdisciplinary team rounds 5 days/week, 3 hours/day therapy
    • Average length of stay: 19-21 days
    • Busy times: 6-9 AM and 6:30-9 PM
  • Additional Support:
    • 2 Charge RNs with light assignments depending on census
    • Nurse aides available
    • Rehab physicians round daily, on-call at night
    • RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
    • SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks

Requirements & Policies

  • Must have natural hair color; no facial piercings allowed
  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
  • Must pass Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
  • Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
  • Cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within this system
  • Must have been off CommonSpirit permanent staff for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
  • 50-mile radius rule applies (driver’s license is source of truth)
  • No contract shorter than 13 weeks will be considered

Patient Care & Skills Expectations

  • Competency in sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes required
  • Comfortable with high level of communication and partnership of care with patients and families
  • Acute MedSurg skills needed (IV therapy, wound care, etc.)
  • Scrub color: Slate grey
  • No telemetry or ventilator patients on this unit
