Unit Information

• Unit: Cardiac Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 25
• Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 1 Unit Secretary, 2-3 Techs
  • Night Shift: 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, 1 Tech
• Patient Ratio: 4:1
• Equipment: EKG Machine, Hoyer Lift, LifePak
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Skills

• Telemetry experience and ability to read EKGs
• Ability to manage a fast-paced unit with multiple admissions, discharges, transfers, and procedures

Preferred Skills

• Ability to set priorities and modify patient care based on changing conditions using good judgment and problem-solving skills
• Timely and appropriate communication with physicians regarding patient condition changes

Typical Procedures on Unit

• Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
• EKGs
• Most cardiac procedures are performed in the Cath Lab, not on the unit

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Work Environment & Additional Info

• Floating: May float to Med Surg (low probability)
• Dress Code: Navy scrubs
• Weekends & On-Call:

  • Every 3rd Friday and Saturday night shift (7p-7a) plus an additional Friday or Saturday night per schedule
  • Additional coverage needed for Halloween, Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas night
