Job Opportunity: RN Step Down
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work every other week (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) schedule.
- Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care.
- Placement will be on a unit with the greatest need: PCU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry unit based on skills.
- Accepts RNs with Med/Surg or Stepdown experience (same credentialing for both).
- Must be willing to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.
Required Credentials & Certifications
Licenses & Verification
- Current nursing license verified via Nursys within 30 days prior to start.
- License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Driver’s License or State ID (must be current and match address on file).
Certifications (Must be AHA approved where specified)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Group B-F every 2 years)
Health & Immunizations
- MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted).
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite.
Tuberculosis Screening
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing required prior to start.
- If positive, must provide negative chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire.
Drug Screening
- 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
Onboarding & Testing Requirements
- Ascension Core Competencies: HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, two attempts allowed.
- Ascension EKG Exam: Passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed.
- Ascension Specialty Exam: Minimum 80% or national benchmark score; updated every 3 years.
- Ascension Epic Test-Out: Epic system training and test results with signed attestation.
- Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start, updated annually.
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite.
- Ascension Onboarding Education Attestation: Completion of 6-hour pre-hire education module.
- Ascension Nova StatStrip: Pre-hire modules for non-allied positions.
- Ascension Badge Photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations.
Professional Documentation
- Resume/Profile submission required.
- Two professional references required prior to first assignment.
- Criminal background check including SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, and national sex offender registry.
- Employment verification for past 7 years.
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start.
- Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and extensions.
Additional Notes
- Must complete a statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- Floating to other units or sites within 40 miles may be required based on need and skill set.
- Optional: Positive PPD with negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire can be provided but not mandatory for onboarding.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg or Stepdown RNs with strong acute care skills and flexibility to float within the facility or nearby locations.
