Position Details

Unit Information

• Unit: 5Atrium Ortho Joint Spine
• Number of Beds: 25
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 5-6 patients per nurse
• Staffing: 4-5 nurses, 1-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), department secretary (7am-7pm, 3 days/week currently; hiring to cover 6 days/week)
• Type of Patients: Post-operative orthopedic patients (hip, knee, spine, other ortho procedures)
• Equipment: General nursing equipment for med-surg and orthopedic post-op care
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Scheduling: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week, every other weekend; no guaranteed block scheduling
• Floating Policy: Contract nurses may float to similar med-surg units

Patient Care & Experience

• Bedside shift report required
• Safety rounding: 1 hour during day shifts, 2 hours during night shifts
• Use of AIDET communication framework for all patient interactions
• Emphasis on treating patients with courtesy, respect, and keeping them informed

Requirements

• Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse License (Virginia)
  • BLS certification (required)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in specialty (orthopedic/post-op care preferred)
• Preferred Skills: Experience with Meditech documentation system, positive attitude
• Advanced Skills: None required

Dress Code

• Navy scrubs
• Any closed-toed shoes
