Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Schedule

  • 8 South PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
  • 25-bed Medical Unit with Internal Medicine Physicians and Residents
  • Care for acutely and chronically ill adults with complex medical diagnoses
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM - 7:15 PM)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Currently 1:5, goal is 1:4
  • Floating required to other PCU units and potentially Med Surg

Required Experience & Certifications

  • EPIC experience required
  • BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
  • State RN license with primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • I-9 or attestation required
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing (must confirm distance eligibility)
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start (covering all locations lived/worked)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Transcript or diploma required to verify highest earned degree
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Drug screen (10 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or declination form required during flu season
  • References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Annual skills checklist update required

Additional Notes

  • Local traveler eligibility based on distance from facility:
    • 50-99.9 miles: eligible for one 13-week assignment, no extension
    • 0-49.9 miles: eligible for one 13-week assignment, no extension
  • All travelers must submit Return to Office (RTO) documentation upfront
  • Orientation Safety Manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
  • Professional photo required for badge issuance (no selfies or filters)
  • Candidates must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality agreements within 48 hours of signing
  • Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; existing badge holders will continue to receive badges until assignment ends

This position is ideal for RNs with progressive care experience, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work flexible shifts in a complex medical environment.
