Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Rochester, NY

Position Details

  • Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
  • Location: Rochester, New York
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: November
  • Shift: 3x12 hour variable shifts (possible opportunity for straight night shift)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Must be available for some holidays
  • First Time Traveler: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Must live more than 75 miles from the facility

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required:
    • New York RN License (must have license in hand)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (to be updated annually)
  • Preferred:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Charting System: EPIC experience required

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks)
  • SSN Trace, National Criminal, National Sex Offender checks
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copy degrees)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 3 months of start, run monthly)
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/Diploma verification if education verification is not on file
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually; acceptable masks include Halyard duckbill 1870, 1860 Regular, 1860 Small)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (required in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (Surface AB positive titer, completed series or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start, includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID-19 vaccination documentation preferred but not required

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (as required)
  • Color blind testing (required once)
  • Competency exam (as required by specialty/profession)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgement
  • Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 4-6 hours)
  • Various attestations and new hire forms to be completed

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be available for holidays.
  • Locals must live more than 75 miles away.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • References required for Aya candidates only (2 references within 3 years).
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Work history verification required (at least 2 past employments verified).

This position is ideal for ER nurses with NY licensure ready to start in November, who have EPIC experience and required certifications, and are comfortable with variable shifts including holiday and weekend coverage.
