Registered Nurse (PCU/MS Float) - Travel/Contract
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position and Scheduling Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse, PCU/MS Float (must be comfortable working all PCU and MS units)
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Floating: May float 2-3 times per shift (every 4 hours based on staffing needs)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Charting: EPIC experience required
- Accepts first-time travelers
- Locals accepted with radius rule applied
- Pending license accepted if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license required
- Call-off policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront; Christmas time off requests cannot be accommodated
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Required Clinical Skills
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
- Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips
- Responding to emergencies via Rapid Response/Code teams
- Managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and handling endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Experience with telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC)
- Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac catheterization settings
Unit Details
- PCU average nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1
- MS average nurse-to-patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)

Important Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation required
- Driver’s License/State ID required within 48 hours of signing (must meet radius criteria)
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Background check: 7-year history within 1 year of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming freedom from communicable diseases
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or mask/declination form during flu season
- Two clinical references required
- Complete employment application/resume
- Annual skills checklist update required

- Orientation Safety Manual must be reviewed prior to start
- Photo for badge required (professional quality, plain background)
- Some facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required prior to start
- No Christmas time off requests accommodated
This position is ideal for RNs comfortable with floating between PCU and MS units, working night shifts, and managing a diverse patient population requiring telemetry and stepdown care skills.
