Travel RN - PICU
Location: Moreno Valley, California

Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Assess patients on admission considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs
- Reassess patient health needs at least every shift and as condition changes
- Establish and update individualized plan of care based on assessments and data
- Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications following the 7 rights
- Assess and document medication effectiveness and any adverse effects
- Perform treatments and procedures adhering to nursing standards, hospital policies, sterile technique, and patient privacy
- Document patient responses, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress accurately and legibly
- Educate patients and families based on assessed needs
- Interpret diagnostic data and intervene appropriately
- Communicate changes in patient condition promptly to physicians and healthcare team using SBAR communication for handoffs
- Respect patient rights including confidentiality, safety, and participation in care planning
- Evaluate and document patient care and teaching effectiveness
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning
- Apply and manage restraints per policy
- Follow National Patient Safety Goals and hospital policies including two patient identifiers
- Understand and participate in hospital disaster plans and rapid response activation
- Complete orientation to Life Safety Standards (Code Blue, Code Pink, Haz Mat, Fire, Oxygen shut off)
- Follow infection control policies
- Demonstrate knowledge of blood transfusion policies and documentation
- Understand and use the Chain of Command appropriately
- Practice hand hygiene before and after patient contact
- Demonstrate knowledge of pediatric medications and dose calculations
- Recognize and intervene in basic cardiac dysrhythmias
- Use bedside monitoring equipment properly
- Perform arterial line setup, calibration, waveform interpretation, discontinuation, and documentation
- Be familiar with legal issues related to minors (consents, CPS, court custody)
- Accurately assess and intervene for critically ill pediatric patients
- Communicate effectively with parents and children
- Document on PICU flow sheets, care plans, medication administration records, and progress notes
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific pain management
- Follow medication policies including narcotics and Pyxis access
- Adhere to high alert medication policies
- Use Alaris infusion pump
- Assess and manage ventilator-dependent patients
- Understand the use and rationale for specialty beds
Required Qualifications
- Current California RN License
- BLS Certification
- Cardiac Monitoring Experience
- PICU Experience
