Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Castro Valley, California
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Castro Valley, California
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Facility: Acute care setting with neuro ICU focus
- Float Opportunities: May float to Emergency Department (ED), Step Down Unit, or Central Monitoring Department
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years nursing experience, with at least 1 year in Neuro ICU
- Epic Experience: Required
Licensure & Certifications Required
- California RN License (must be current and in hand)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Preferred
- Additional certifications may be required depending on position (e.g., CCRN, PALS, NRP, CPI)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including alias and county searches
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
- Sex Offender Search required within 90 days of start
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical positions
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear candidate for work)
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions)
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Immunity or vaccination proof for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and renewed annually
Competency & Skills
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and renewed annually
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required depending on unit
- ICU RNs may be required to take EKG exam onsite after start
