Description

Travel RN - Neuro (Med Surg Neuro)

Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (up to 26 weeks upon request)
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 (48 hours available upon request)
Weekend Requirements: Every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) expected
Time Off: Up to 5 days per 13-week contract automatically approved; additional time off requires approval and must be made up
Holiday Requirements: Expected to work at least one major summer or winter holiday

  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Patient Types: Medical and Surgical Neuro (e.g., Parkinson’s, Stroke, Lumbar); no trauma patients
  • Equipment: Standard, including IV pumps
  • EMR System: EPIC

Required Certifications & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience
  • Required Certifications: BLS, NIH (can be completed at orientation)
  • Must have charge nurse experience or willingness to learn and take on charge duties
  • Neuro and Stroke experience highly preferred

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care by developing nursing diagnoses, care objectives, and interventions
  • Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families
  • Monitor, record, and report patient symptoms and changes
  • Collaborate with healthcare team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
  • Modify treatment plans based on patient responses
  • Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy (including central lines), and other interventions
  • Prepare patients for exams and explain procedures/treatments/discharge instructions
  • Maintain safe patient care environment and adhere to infection control and medication policies
  • Document patient care accurately in records
  • Act as patient advocate and promote a culture of safety
  • Supervise and delegate duties to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
  • Attend Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned
  • Comply with Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals

  • Customary float to Med Surg and Progressive Care units

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (exemptions require approval)
  • Facility is a Level 3 Emergency and Trauma Center with certifications including Primary Stroke Center and STEMI Center designations
