Travel Nurse Opportunity: MedSurg/Tele/Oncology (2 Weeks)

Location: Bakersfield, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced MedSurg/Tele/Oncology nurse for a travel contract. Candidates must have at least 2 years of nursing experience and hold active BLS, ACLS, and California nursing license.

Unit Details

Unit: MedSurg/Oncology
Number of beds: 27
Patient Ratios:
- MedSurg: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Chemo/Tele: 1 nurse to 4 patients
EMR System: Cerner
Charge Nurse: Nurse Shift Managers who do not take patient assignments; resource nurse available for support
Nurse Aides: Typically 2 per shift
Weekend Requirement: One weekend shift every two weeks
Holidays: 2 major holidays and 1 minor holiday required
Scrub Color: Navy
Telemetry: Remote telemetry monitored by techs
Ventilators: None on unit
Hospitalist Coverage: In-house 24/7
Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
Pharmacy: Available 24/7
Call Requirements: Must report within 30 minutes if placed on standby/call
IV Team: No dedicated IV team, but resource nurse available; PICC and midline team present
Call: None required
Shifts: 7 AM and 7 PM
Floating: May float to other med surg units
Orientation: One shift Cerner training if needed, plus 2 shifts on unit

Patient Population & Care

Common Diagnoses: General medical surgical patients including GYN, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, some spine and joint cases
Oncology: 7 rooms are private oncology suites; patients may not be on active chemo but have oncology history
No acute strokes or acute cardiac patients
No drips
Pediatric patients accepted if over age 15

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Strong charge/preceptor RN experience preferred
Must have strong central line experience
Compassionate care and patient teaching focus
Cerner EMR experience preferred

Additional Notes

Night shifts every other week (EOW)
First to float when needed
