Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Facility Type: Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH)


Job Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with Med-Surg (MS), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Telemetry (Tele) experience
  • Patient Population: High acuity patients including med-surg, intubated/trached on ventilator, post open heart surgery, cystic fibrosis, vent weaning, pulmonary fibrosis, and sepsis from wounds
  • Environment: LTACH where patients require longer hospital stays before discharge to home, rehab, or skilled nursing
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12 hour day shifts)
  • Schedule: Self-scheduling with float required
  • Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend (8 weekend shifts per contract)
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5 patients
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year recent MS/Tele experience (within last year)
  • Education: BSN preferred
  • License: Pending license acceptable but must be active before start
  • Locals Accepted: Within 50-mile radius at reduced rate

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (must state "Basic Life Support")
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification - Annual requirement
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, TNCC, CPI)

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background Check (within 30 days of start) including:
    • National Criminal Check
    • State and County Searches (10 years)
    • SSN Trace
    • National Sex Offender Check
    • FACIS Level 3
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM
    • HHS/OIG
  • Education Verification (official transcript or diploma with graduation date)
  • State License Primary Source Verification (within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification
  • Drug Screen (within 30 days of start) covering multiple substances
  • Physical Exam (within last 12 months)
  • Fit Mask Testing (completed onsite)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer or declination)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination)
    • Flu Vaccine (required during flu season or approved medical/religious exemption with mask requirement)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year, with additional requirements if positive)
  • References: 2 professional references within last 3 years
  • Skills Checklist and Work History Verification

Additional Notes

  • Float to other units as needed
  • ICU nurses often float to LTACH due to patient acuity
  • Basic Dysrhythmia exam required with passing score of 84% or higher (2 attempts allowed; ICU only 1 attempt)
  • Orientation and facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start
