Description
Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: December 15 (Non-negotiable)
Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
Key Requirements & Credentials
Licenses & Certifications
- Current Nursing License: Must have primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Nursys Verification: Required within 30 days prior to start.
- BLS Certification: Must be American Heart Association (AHA) certified.
- NIH Certification: Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F updated every 2 years.
Testing & Exams (Must be completed prior to start)
- Ascension Medical Surgical Exam: Minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts, updated every 3 years.
- Ascension Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts, completed within a year of start and updated yearly.
- Ascension EKG Exam: Minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts; must be current edition as of Dec 1, 2023.
- Ascension Cerner Test-Out: Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation required.
- Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist to be completed within one year of start and updated annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
- Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history; no declinations accepted.
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted but mask required.
- Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred before start, can be done onsite. Annual update required.
- 2 Step PPD or IGRA: 1st PPD within 1 year, 2nd within 30 days of start or negative IGRA within 90 days. Annual TB questionnaire required. If positive TB, chest X-ray within 1 year required.
- Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment; updated annually.
- 12 Panel Drug Screen: Within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter. Includes testing for 12 specified substances. Retesting required if break in service > 90 days.
Professional Requirements
- Resume/Profile: Must be submitted prior to assignment.
- Two Professional References: Required before first assignment.
- Criminal Background Check: Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; completed within 30 days of assignment and updated annually or after >90-day break.
- Employment Verification: Past 7 years, updated annually or after >90-day break.
- Education Verification: Relevant clinical education verified within 90 days of start; must be rerun after >90-day break.
- Driver’s License/State ID: Must be current, match address on file, and show front/back.
Onboarding & Orientation
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite.
- Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation: Completion of 6-hour pre-hire training with attestation.
- Ascension Nova StatStrip: Pre-hire modules required for non-allied positions.
- Ascension Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and updated with extensions.
Additional Notes
- Flu vaccine exemptions are accepted but require mask-wearing during flu season.
- Optional: Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (uploaded by unit leader within a week).
- Badge photo required prior to assignment (forward-facing headshot, white or blue background, no filters).
This position is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical RNs who meet the credentialing and health requirements and are available to start on December 15 for a 13-week assignment in Nashville, TN.
