PICU RN - 3W

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Information

• Unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Beds: 8 beds (average census 4-5)
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory issues, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), traumas (MVAs, head traumas, broken bones), surgical cases, neurological (seizures), overdose, suicide attempts

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year PICU experience required
• Experience with intubated patients, running drips, sedation, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVDs), and emergency situations
• Must be comfortable drawing own labs
• Experience with titrating drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin, sedation) required
• ECMO experience not required (unit does not provide ECMO)
• Open to travel duos and first-time travelers (duos work same weekends but different schedules)

Certifications

• Required: BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA)
• TNCC preferred but not required

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse takes patient assignments and modifies as able
• No nurse aides on the unit
• Pediatrician not in-house 24/7; intensivist lives within 10 minutes; residents in-house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, Nava, Vapotherm, Heliox
• No Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs read and interpret their own cardiac strips

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shift Length: 12-hour night shifts
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with a tiered approach; block scheduling not allowed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating: May float to pediatric NICU if experienced; may observe in adult areas depending on census
• Dress Code: Clean, professional, pediatric appropriate scrubs

Orientation

• 1 day general hospital orientation
• 2 days unit-specific orientation

Additional Notes:

• Clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Previous Marshfield employees must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment to be eligible
