Job Opportunity: Float Pool Nurse (ICU/MedSurg Tele/PCU)

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit/Department

• Float Pool covering ICU, MedSurg Telemetry, and PCU units across two campuses
• Includes inpatient holding in the Emergency Department
• East Campus (Campus 2) includes NextCare (10-bed double occupancy with ICU and stepdown patients)
• West Campus Stepdown: 14 rooms (double occupancy), average census 20
• West MedSurg Tele: 95 beds divided into 4 areas
• MedSurg broken into 10-room pods, double occupancy

Nurse:Patient Ratios

• PCU: 1:4
• MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Geriatric patients
• Orthopedic patients
• Post-procedural patients from cath lab (groin site care)
• Post MI, post cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4

Experience & Skills Required

• Minimum 1 year ICU experience
• Comfortable titrating drips including: Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin
• Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips (RNs read strips)

Nursing Roles & Support

• Charge nurse present on each unit; does not take patient assignments
• Nurse aides utilized in all settings
• Respiratory therapy equipment used: CPAP, BiPAP, Heated High Flow (especially in PCU)

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift times: 7 AM - 7 PM (AM and PM shifts)
• Schedule published 6 weeks in advance, covering 4 weeks at a time
• Night shift may allow block scheduling
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday coverage included in permanent staff rotation
• Call/standby required on shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses may be called in during their 12-hour shift

Orientation

• 8-hour general hospital orientation day
• 12-hour shift orientation at West MedSurg Telemetry
• 12-hour shift orientation at PCU West Campus
• East Campus orientation similar but smaller and easier to navigate

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts before contract signing
• Radius rule: must live within 50 miles and not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity) in the past year
• Scrub dress code: currently solid color professional scrubs; transitioning to navy scrubs per Dignity guidelines in October
• Unit assignments communicated by text message 2 hours before shift start
• Travel time between campuses approximately 20-25 minutes

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with critical care drips, telemetry monitoring, and flexible scheduling across multiple units.
