Travel RN – Cardiac Stepdown

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel


Position Details

  • Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown RN
  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekly Hours: 36 or 48 (must specify on submission)
  • Assignment Length: 26 weeks
  • Number of Openings: 2
  • Weekend Hours: As required, typically every other weekend
  • Call Requirements: None

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current RN license eligible or active in Missouri
  • Required: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • Preferred: NIHSS certification

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Cardiac Stepdown, inpatient setting

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Cardiac Med Intermediate (Stepdown)
  • Number of Beds: 32
  • Patient Ratios: 1:3 to 1:4
  • Typical Patients: Post-op CABG/Valve, Thoracotomies, Respiratory Failure, Chest Pain
  • Equipment: Chest tubes, Temporary Pacemakers, BiPAPs
  • EMR System: EPIC

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
  • Coordinate patient care with ancillary departments
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality
  • Float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
  • Maintain professional accountability and adhere to facility mission, values, and standards

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk most of the shift
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance
  • May work varying schedules and shifts based on patient care needs
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Physical demands include pushing, pulling, gripping up to 50 lbs, pinching up to 15 lbs, minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: All black with facility logo on top
  • Not allowed: Hoodies, jackets without logo, t-shirts, open-toed shoes, earbuds, fake nails

Additional Notes

  • Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1; no declinations accepted
  • Night shift orientation occurs during day shift; availability for full orientation week required
  • Must be a team player and promote a positive culture
