Registered Nurse (L&D) - Travel/Contract
Location: Culpeper, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience
- VA/Compact nursing license required
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) completed through American Academy of Pediatrics within 1 year of start
- Familiarity with LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
- Experience with postpartum and L&D care
- Every 3rd weekend work requirement
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS: AHA or American Red Cross only
- NRP: Must be current within 1 year
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required for L&D RNs; certification must be issued through AWHONN or NCC
- ACLS: Preferred for L&D (required for some other units)
- PALS: Preferred but not required for L&D
- TNCC: Highly preferred but not required for all ER RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start and renewed annually
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): Required for ER and Behavioral Health RNs; UVA-Culpeper accepts CPIT Calm Every Storm and CPI Blue Card certifications
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
- Competency Exam: Required for all travelers within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for certain RN specialties; not required for L&D
- Color Blind Testing: Required; if failed, task-specific skills must be performed
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start and updated annually, including:
- Criminal checks for all locations lived/worked in last 7 years
- Local, federal, statewide, and national criminal databases
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification (highest degree earned)
- Social Security verification within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Employment application and 2 professional references from the specialty/unit within 2 years of start
- Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (within 30 days if past positive TB)
- Negative Qgold (QFT) TB test within 30 days of start (PPD and Tspot not accepted)
- Annual TB questionnaire; physician-signed if past positive TB
- Fit mask (N95) within 1 year of start, renewed annually; specific approved models required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination accepted
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or declination form accepted)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred but no longer required after August 4, 2023
Facility Specific Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge (solid backdrop, shoulders up, business attire) required before start
- Completion of facility-specific forms such as contingent worker form, flu vaccination exemption forms, and annual TB screening assessment
- Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas required for credentialing
- Must comply with all facility onboarding and compliance documentation deadlines
Work Schedule
- Every 3rd weekend required
This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses with current certifications and licensure who are comfortable working a travel contract in a hospital setting with specific compliance and immunization requirements.
