Travel RN Step Down Nurse Opportunity
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work every other week (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) schedule.
- Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), Med-Surg, Telemetry, or Acute Care.
- Placement will be on a unit with the greatest need, which may be PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry units based on your skills.
- Accepts RNs with Med-Surg or Stepdown experience (same credentialing for both).
- Must be willing to float onsite within your skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Must be AHA certified.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Must be AHA certified.
- Nursys Verification – Must be completed within 30 days prior to start. Disciplinary actions require additional documentation.
- Current Nursing License – Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Driver’s License/State ID – Must be valid and match address requirements.
Required Training & Competencies
- Ascension Color Vision Test – Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years.
- Ascension Core Competencies – Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year of start and updated yearly (minimum 80% score).
- NIH Certification – Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years.
- Ascension EKG Exam – Must pass with at least 80%, two attempts allowed.

- Ascension Nova StatStrip Training
- Ascension Epic Test-Out – Includes test results and training checklist with signed attestation.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- MMR – Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
- Fit Test – Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite.
- Hepatitis B – Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza Vaccine – Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
- Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire – Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within a year, and completed TB questionnaire.
- 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) – Required within specified timeframes prior to start.
- Varicella – Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted.
- Tdap – Valid for 10 years; no declinations accepted.
- Health Statement – Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen – Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually; includes testing for 12 specified substances.
Professional Requirements
- Ascension Profile (Resume)
- Two Professional References – Required prior to first assignment.
- Criminal Background Check – Includes Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender; completed within 30 days prior to first assignment and updated annually.
- EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) Check – Completed within 90 days prior to start and rerun if break in service > 90 days.
- Ascension Skills Checklist – Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually.
- Education Verification – Must be completed within 90 days prior to start; diplomas not accepted, official transcripts required if verification fails.
- Confirmation of Assignment – Provided upon initial assignment and updated with each extension.
- Employment Verification – Third-party verification for past 7 years; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days.
Additional Notes
- Floating to other units or sites within 40 miles may be required based on staffing needs.
- Must comply with all Ascension Health onboarding and credentialing requirements.
- Some optional checklists and evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for onboarding.
