Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Downey, California

Job Description
- ICU/CCU Nights
- Every other weekend required
- Possible float to DOU, Telemetry, or Med Tele units
- Minimum 3 years of experience required
- HARD START on 12/15
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) or VIP (Violence Intervention Program) with physical, in-person portion required within 90 days of start
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
Required Skills
- FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Multi-system organ failure management
- Obtain 12 lead EKG
- IV insulin protocols
- Chronic/Acute renal failure care
- Accessing ports
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Starting IVs
- Continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade and sedation
- Emergency medications and procedural sedation administration
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- CVA/Acute stroke management
- Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
- Assist with BiPAP and CPAP management
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
- Phlebotomy
- Surgical wounds with drains/Wound Vac care
- Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
Work Requirements
- No Return to Office (RTO) allowed during first 2 weeks of assignment
- Maximum 3 days RTO allowed for entire contract
- Must be willing to work holidays
- RTO requests are final once submitted (can only be canceled, not changed)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated monthly)
- Education verification (highest level required)
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (advanced level required for ICU/telemetry/ED)
- Fetal monitoring competency exam for L&D RNs (if applicable)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, free of communicable disease, able to perform duties
- Fit mask test within 1 year (annual renewal) for applicable units
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 lifetime vaccines (boosters allowed)
- Hepatitis B vaccine series, positive titer, or declination
- Negative 7-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)
- Seasonal flu and COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
Facility Specific
- Photo for badge (white background, shoulders up) required (not for per diem)
- Completion of prestart Oracle modules by 5 PM on first Monday of assignment
- Interim Life Safety Measures training prior to start
References & Employment History
- 2 professional references from manager or above (clinical candidates) within 2 years
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year relevant experience and 7 years work history if applicable
- Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)
Notes
- Onsite pass/fail dysrhythmia/EKG testing required; no remediation or retakes allowed
- VIP, MAB, or CPI with physical in-person portion must be completed within 90 days if not current at start
- Candidates with beards must shave for mask fit test unless religious exemption is provided
- RTO (request time off) must be submitted with application; no changes allowed after submission except cancellations
This position is ideal for experienced ICU/CCU RNs comfortable with critical care skills, flexible scheduling, and working nights with weekend coverage.
