ICU RN - 2E SICU

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: 2E SICU
• Beds: 16, plus 2 additional procedural beds
• Nurse:Patient Ratios:

  • 1:2 typical
  • 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op heart patients, MTP, OPO)
  • 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
• Common Patient Types:

  • Cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA)
  • Trauma (Level 2 trauma center)
  • NSTEMI/STEMI
  • Vascular surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • General surgery
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • ENT surgery
  • Other surgical ICU patients

Required Experience & Skills

• Experience with high acuity ICU patient populations required
• Preferred but not required: CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO experience
• All nurses care for POD 1 heart patients; immediate postop heart patients cared for 1:1 by specially trained nurses
• RNs are required to titrate drips

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse on every shift; usually does not take patient assignments but may if needed
• Nursing House Supervisor available 24/7
• Nurse Aide: One NA during day shift for entire unit; typically no NA at night
• Intensivist in-house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapist in ICU 24/7
• RT equipment includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, etc.
• No Tele/Monitor Techs on unit; RNs monitor and document their own telemetry strips (GE monitors)

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift times: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
• Staff self-schedule; agency staff scheduled to unit needs with approved RTO
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (or more if willing)
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday (or more if willing)
• Call/standby: Only during scheduled shift if census is low (per agency allowed hours)
• Floating: May float to MICU or serve as patient observer within hospital if not needed in SICU or MICU

Orientation & Dress Code

• One day system onboarding and CBT completion
• Two orientation shifts on unit with skills checklist completion required
• Dress code: No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire expected

Additional Notes

• Must note if clinician has previously worked for this facility; if yes, last end date must be at least 6 months prior to submission
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Preference for more day or night shifts will be discussed during interview
• Weekend and holiday coverage expected every other occurrence or more if willing
