Medical Surgical RN - Travel Assignment

Location: McCall, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Department: Medical Surgical (Floor 2)
• Number of Beds: 13
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • 1:4 without CNA
  • 1:3 with CNA
• Common Patient Diagnoses:

  • Post orthopedic surgeries
  • Pneumonia (PN)
  • COPD
  • CHF
  • General surgical cases (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies)
  • Atrial fibrillation with RVR
  • Myocardial infarction / rule out chest pain
  • Pediatric respiratory cases (RSV, pneumonia) – preferred to be assigned to core staff with experience

Required Certifications & Experience

• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS
• Experience: Minimum 1 year Med-Surg experience; first-time travelers are acceptable

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips including:

  • Insulin
  • Cardizem
  • Heparin
• Charge Nurse Role: Acts as a resource house-wide, covering as house supervisor and overseeing Medical Surgical & Labor & Delivery units
• CNA Support: 1 CNA per unit, duties include vital signs, ADLs, Foley catheter removal, and sterile procedure setup (no labs or IV starts/removals)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula, some high flow, CPAP, BiPAP
• Telemetry: Tele box and virtual monitor tech available; RN should be able to read basic telemetry

Scheduling & Work Hours

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Shift Start Times: 7 AM or 7 PM
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, self-scheduling with first schedule to fill gaps; blocks considered to meet unit needs
• Weekend Requirement: Every 2nd to 3rd weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Occasional
• Call/Standby Requirement: 2 shifts per contract
• Floating: Rarely, primarily assigned to the unit; may float to ER as needed

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation: 1-2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
• Dress Code: Any color professional scrubs; scrubs not provided

Additional Notes

• This is a small hospital in a scenic, outdoorsy location
• Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for this travel assignment
