Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Travel/Contract)
Location: Arlington, Virginia
Facility Type: Level II Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, Comprehensive Stroke Center, 24/7 Interventional Cardiology
Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Room (ER)
- Schedule: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s)
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: ASAP (dependent on EPIC experience/training)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 65,000 visits annually
- Beds: 36 total (including 8 express care beds)
- Patient Population: Neonate to geriatric
Requirements
- Active Virginia or Compact Nursing License at time of submission
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred but not required; trauma center experience considered
- Weekend shifts: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (details discussed during interview)
Vaccination & Health Requirements
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- Medical or religious flu vaccine exemptions allowed with proper documentation and approval
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Adult TDAP vaccine required
- Fit mask test within last 12 months required
- Negative 11-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination)
- Varicella
- Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year, attesting ability to meet physical demands
Orientation & Training
- EPIC training required; some candidates complete modules off-site (approx. 5-8 hours) before start
- Facility-specific orientation and policy acknowledgements required prior to start, including:
- Code of Ethics
- Confidentiality and Information Security Agreement
- Dress Code
- Hand Hygiene and Infection Control
- National Patient Safety Goals
- Mission and Vision Statement
- Parking and Vendor Access policies
- Online orientation and attestations must be completed
Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during shifts
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
- Annual updates required for core competencies and TB questionnaire
- Facility badge and agency badge required to be worn at all times
