Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: ICU (Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years ICU experience
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Shift Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Floating within ICU service line units required
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB)

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Medical and Surgical ICU experience
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • 12 lead EKG/ECG acquisition
  • Central Venous Pressure (CVP) and Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Management of acute/chronic renal failure and CRRT/dialysis
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line and PICC line care/management
  • IV therapy including starting and maintaining IVs, continuous IV sedation
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Stroke and CVA management
  • BiPAP and ventilator management, respiratory failure care
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
  • Phlebotomy
  • Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab float assignments
  • Professional license primary source verification (Missouri licenses via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be current throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with specific unit exemptions)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Unit-specific competency exams including medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, and oncology (if applicable)
  • Various facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code, and latex allergy questionnaire must be completed prior to start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

  • Candidates must adhere to facility policies including fingernail, dress code, and hand hygiene policies or risk being sent home
  • Candidates must complete required training and certifications as outlined by the unit and facility
  • Floating within ICU service line units is expected to meet facility needs
  • No block scheduling accommodations
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are not eligible for this travel assignment

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills and certifications, willing to commit to a 13-week travel contract in Saint Louis, Missouri.
