Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: ICU (Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
  • Ratio: 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-timers Accepted: No
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Shift Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, within ICU service line
  • Block Schedule Accommodation: No
  • Locals Accepted: No (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes
  • Return to Origin Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB)

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Obtaining and interpreting 12 lead EKG/ECG
  • Central Venous Pressure Monitoring (CVP)
  • Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
  • Management of chronic/acute renal failure and CRRT/dialysis
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line and PICC line care/management
  • Starting and maintaining IVs, continuous IV sedation
  • Emergency medication administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • CVA/Acute stroke management
  • BiPAP and ventilator management
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Respiratory failure management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
  • Phlebotomy
  • Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vacs

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • State-specific background checks and registries as applicable
  • Professional license primary source verification (Missouri licenses via NURSYS)
  • Drug testing within 1 year, must include standard panels and be current throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination (or approved exemption)
  • Facility-specific documents: HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene policy, fingernail and dress code policies, regulatory compliance education, hepatitis B declination
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, unit-specific skills, and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (updated annually)
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

  • Candidates must adhere to facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and fingernail standards or risk being sent home
  • Floating within ICU service line expected
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Locals not accepted (must live 75+ miles away)
  • Pending licenses accepted with restrictions
  • Return to origin limited to no more than 7 days during contract
