Cardiac Telemetry Nurse - Tower 7 (Phoenix, AZ)
Unit & Facility Overview
- Unit: Cardiac Telemetry - Tower 7
- Hospital Size: 607 beds, nationally recognized tertiary care center
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma
- Teaching Hospital: Yes, nursing students present
- Specialties: Lung, Liver, Kidney Transplants; associated with Barrow Neuro Institute (#1 neuro institute)
- EMR System: Cerner (required)
Contract Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum (facility will not consider contracts shorter than 13 weeks)
- Orientation: Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holidays)
- Unit Orientation: 2 days
- Shift Length: 12-hour night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, based on unit coverage
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed with balanced shifts via scheduler
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Required to float to other applicable areas
Patient Care & Unit Details
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:3 or 1:4
- Patient Diagnoses: CABG, MVR, STEMI, Heart Failure, Fundoplication, VATS Decortication, Vascular Repair
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years CORE experience in specialty
- Level 1 Trauma and teaching experience required
- Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
- Experience with post-op cardiovascular surgery patients highly recommended but not required
- Skills:
- RNs must titrate drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- Ability to interpret common cardiac rhythms (GE tele packs and monitors)
- Support Staff:
- Telemetry techs monitor off-unit
- 1 Patient Care Tech (PCT) per 16 beds
- Resource/Charge nurse ideally does not take patient assignments
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
Certifications & Exams
- Required Certifications: BLS
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam:
- Required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance
- Maximum 2 attempts allowed
- Failure results in 6-month disqualification within CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento region
- Day 1 Pass/Fail Exam:
- SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes (except NyICU & ED have modified requirements)
- Pass/fail based on sterile field maintenance and competency
- Additional education on lifts, restraints, wound care provided
- Other Requirements:
- Must have natural hair color (no unnatural colors)
- No facial piercings allowed
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot work multiple contracts simultaneously within Dignity AZ
- Must be off CommonSpirit as permanent staff for 12 months before being eligible for travel assignment
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles
- Parking provided with shuttle service to facility (night shift parking in garage)
- 50-mile radius rule applies (driver’s license is source of truth)
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry nurses with trauma and teaching hospital backgrounds, comfortable with critical care post-op cardiovascular patients, and able to meet strict certification and exam requirements.
