Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

Job Details

• Unit: Emergency Room
• Average Daily Census: 16-18 patients
• Visits per Day: 16
• Rooms/Beds: 7
• Required Experience: Minimum 1 year
• First-time travelers accepted: Yes
• Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
• Floating: Regular floating within scope may be required between departments, units, and facilities
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
• Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
• On-call: Not required
• Block schedule: Not accommodated
• Local candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
• Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB, NIH Stroke Certification) - check unit-specific requirements

Licensure

• Active RN license required (Missouri license verifiable via NURSYS)
• Pending licenses not accepted
• IV Certification required for LPN/LVN if applicable (Missouri facilities)

Skills & Competencies

• Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 12 months for certain units
• Color Blind Testing required within 12 months of start

Background Checks & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
• Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
• State-specific searches required for Missouri and Illinois placements
• Abuse registry and other state-specific checks as applicable

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start (2-step PPD or equivalent)
• Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required (with exceptions for certain units)
• Hepatitis B declination form required (vaccination not mandatory)
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
• HIPAA Acknowledgement signed prior to start and updated annually
• Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy to be reviewed and signed prior to start
• Regulatory Compliance Education completed and passed with 80% or higher prior to start and annually thereafter
• Additional healthstream modules and facility-specific training may be required prior to orientation

• Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem
