Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatrics)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Pediatric RN position with alternating day and night shifts (36 hours; every other week)
- Minimum 2 years pediatric nursing experience required; first-time travelers accepted
- Experience with pediatric patients requiring tracheostomy and ventilator care is essential
- Start Date: December 3, 2025
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Holiday shifts required as scheduled
- Floating required within specialty or sister units as needed
- On-call not required
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: typically 1:3, up to 1:4 with lower acuity patients
Patient Population & Diagnoses
- Prematurity
- Apnea of Prematurity (AOP)
- Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)
- Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia/Chronic Lung Disease (BLD/CLD)
- Cardiac defects
- Feeding issues
- Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), including iatrogenic NAS
Special Equipment
- Tracheostomy and ventilators
- Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) / Central Lines (CL)
- Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) / Intravenous Lipids (IL)
Licensure & Certifications Required
- Registered Nurse license in Maryland
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Required Documentation & Compliance
- I-9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID
- E-Verify or attestation
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and sanction list checks
- Drug screening (9-panel or 10-panel depending on facility)
- Physical exam including latex allergy questionnaire and fit mask test within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for pediatric units)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (proof of immunity or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (series and positive titer required)
- Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required by 12/2/25)
- COVID-19 vaccination/exemption requirements vary by location; exemptions accepted where applicable
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Age-specific competency exam (score ≥ 80%)
- Color blindness testing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (not required at this facility)
Additional Requirements
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of work history (attestation accepted if necessary)
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, dress code review, badge application, and job description acknowledgment
Work Environment
- Floating within specialty or sister units as needed
- Patient acuity varies; nurse-to-patient ratio adjusts accordingly
- Pediatric specialty care with complex patient needs
