CT Technologist - Radiology / Cardiology
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The CT Technologist operates multi-detector CT scan equipment to capture and process diagnostic images for medical diagnosis. This role supports a collaborative environment integrating education, research, and clinical leadership, working with patients across all age groups (infant to geriatric).
Work Schedule
- Sunday: 4:00 PM - 4:30 AM
- Monday: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Tuesday: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (may vary with another day of the week)
Required Education & Certification
- Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology training program
- Licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging
- Valid CPR card
- ARRT (CT) registry required; if not ARRT (CT), must have ARRT (R), ARRT (N), NMTCB certification, or ARRT (RT) registration with CT clinical experience and obtain ARRT CT certification within 6 months of hire
Required Experience & Skills
- Proficient in IV/Angio-cath starts and administration of contrast media via power injection
- Ability to demonstrate normal and abnormal cross-sectional anatomy/pathology using scan techniques, reconstructions, and 3D post-processing
- Knowledge of CT physics and radiation safety
- Ability to perform all ranges of CT exams after competency completion
- Maintain current knowledge of CT technology hardware and software upgrades
Key Responsibilities
Imaging
- Operate multi-slice CT scanners accurately and efficiently
- Evaluate anatomy and pathologies for Radiologist review
- Prepare and instruct patients using age-appropriate communication
- Adjust scanning factors and patient positioning to minimize artifacts
- Adhere to ALARA principle to optimize image quality with minimal radiation exposure
Documentation
- Verify imaging orders and protocols in electronic medical records
- Ensure accurate patient identification and image labeling
- Complete all scanning duties with correct data entry and image verification
- Prescreen patients for contrast sensitivity and contraindications
- Implement appropriate contrast types and injection factors
- Generate CDs/DVDs of imaging exams as needed
Personal & Patient Care and Safety
- Follow CMS, OHA, and DNV-GL regulations and report unsafe conditions
- Use universal precautions for blood and body fluids
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Explain procedures clearly to patients to reduce anxiety
- Report injuries and ergonomic issues
Effective Use of Resources
- Assist in scheduling and collaborate with Patient Access Services
- Arrange patient transport and assist with patient movement as needed
- Participate in clinical research and teaching radiology students/residents
Environment of Care
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas
- Follow infection prevention and control policies
- Perform quality control on diagnostic equipment and maintain logs
- Request equipment maintenance as needed

- Maintain required licensure and continuing education
Compliance & Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- Background check within 6 months of start, including education and work history verification
- National sex offender search and other required screenings
- Two manager or supervisor references from the last 24 months
- Employment application with at least 7 years of work history
Certifications Required
- ACLS (AHA provider only)
- BLS (AHA provider only)
- PALS (AHA provider only)
- NRP (AHA/AAP only)
- State license primary source verification within 60 days prior to start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine or signed declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- TB questionnaire
- Immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with declination option)
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines within 3 months prior to start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use and signed form
Facility Specific Requirements
- Review and sign professional appearance policy and job description prior to start
- Complete required online modules (Compass) before badge issuance
- Complete advanced screening release authorization and other onboarding documents timely
- Maintain availability for compliance needs up to start date
