Description

Job Opportunity: RN Medical/Surgical

Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: December 8 (Non-negotiable)
Shift: 36 or 48 hours per week


Job Description

  • Floating between units and facilities within a 35-mile radius may be required based on staffing needs, patient census, and acuity.
  • Travelers will be notified before their scheduled shift if floating is required.

Required Credentials & Onboarding Requirements

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current nursing license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • BLS certification (must be American Heart Association).
  • License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • NIH Certification (Group A updated yearly; Groups B-F every 2 years).

Testing & Exams (Must be completed prior to start and maintained as required)

  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts; updated edition as of Dec 1, 2023).
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts).
  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out (Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation).
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical only; completed within one year of start, updated annually).
  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (optional for onboarding).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Influenza vaccine or exemption/declination (flu season Oct 1 - Mar 31; mask required if exempt).
  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted).
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider (no declinations accepted).
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite.
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Recent testing required with annual TB questionnaire.
  • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire.
  • Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.

Professional Documentation

  • Resume/Profile submission required.
  • Two professional references required prior to first assignment.
  • Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry (updated annually or after break in service >90 days).
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start (rerun if break in service >90 days).
  • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start (rerun if break in service >90 days).
  • Employment verification for past 7 years (updated annually or after break in service >90 days).
  • Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension.
  • Driver’s License/State ID (must be current, match address on file, and show front/back).
  • Badge photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations.

Onboarding & Training

  • Completion of Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (done onsite).
  • Completion of Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire training).
  • Completion of Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules for non-allied positions.

Additional Notes

  • Floating assignments depend on staffing needs and will be communicated in advance.
  • Flu season mask policy applies if vaccine is declined or exempted.
  • All required exams and certifications have specific validity periods and retesting requirements.
  • Documentation must be current and compliant with Ascension Health policies.

This position is ideal for RNs with Medical/Surgical experience who are flexible with floating assignments and meet comprehensive credentialing and health requirements.
