    Description

    Infection Prevention (IP) Specialist - Quality Management

    Location: Monterey, California
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Position Summary

    Under the leadership of the Quality Management Department Director, the Infection Prevention (IP) Analyst is responsible for surveillance, prevention, and control activities to prevent and control infections. Key responsibilities include:

    • Developing and maintaining an infection control program aligned with standards from:
      • The Joint Commission
      • California Code of Regulations, Title 22
      • OSHA
      • CDC
    • IP policy and program development, standards interpretation, and regulatory analysis
    • Epidemiology and outbreak analysis and response
    • Facilitating or participating in work groups or committees for IP program success
    • Collaborating with Employee Health on infections, immunizations, and prophylaxis after exposure
    • Participating in environmental inspections, continuing education, and in-services
    • Partnering with Quality Management staff to promote performance improvement in infection control
    • Serving as an internal resource for clinical performance improvement related to hospital-acquired infection prevention, detection, and control
    • Participating in the Anti-microbial Stewardship program
    • Playing an active role during Joint Commission surveys and regulatory inspections
    • Creating, analyzing, and presenting infection prevention data reports internally and externally, including NHSN database submissions

    Requirements

    Experience

    • 1-3 years in a healthcare setting
    • Previous experience in infection prevention or laboratory science preferred
    • Experience teaching adult learners preferred
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to learn/manage specialized infection control software

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science, Laboratory Technology, or Nursing

    Licensure/Certifications

    • CIC certification or ability to obtain CIC certification (Association of Practitioners in Infection Control) within 3 years of clinical practice in infection prevention

    Additional Information

    • BLS certification required (AHA)
    • Facility is nicotine-free; all drug tests must be negative for nicotine/cotinine unless prescribed nicotine patch
    • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
