Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: South Campus PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (0700-1930)
  • No weekends, no call, no holidays required
  • Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Locals not accepted (must live at least 75 miles away)
  • Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Experience & Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 2-3 years Level 1 ICU experience required (Level 2 ICU experience considered)
  • Critical care experience required
  • Experience with inpatient care in a Level I Trauma Center
  • Skills required:
    • Phase I PACU care
    • Dysrhythmia recognition and management
    • Blood product administration
    • Phlebotomy
    • Starting IVs and managing IV vasopressors
    • ICP (Intracranial Pressure) monitoring
    • Care of ventilated patients
  • Patient population includes adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatrics
  • Surgical patients recovered include neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general surgery, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant (excluding open heart surgeries and liver transplants)
  • Unit has its own Patient Care Technician (PCT) and transport team
  • Unit open 24/7 with 38 patient bays
  • Night shift may require learning pre-op patient workup

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification) - check unit-specific requirements

Licensure & Compliance

  • Missouri RN license required (NURSYS verification required)
  • Pending licenses accepted
  • Background checks required including:
    • Criminal background check (7-year search, statewide and nationwide)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
    • HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
  • Education verification required (highest nursing education)
  • Drug testing required within 1 year of start and must remain valid during assignment
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with yearly questionnaire)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., HIPAA, Latex Allergy, Confidentiality, Hand Hygiene, Dress Code, Fingernail Policy)

Additional Requirements

  • No on-call required
  • Return to work restrictions: no more than 7 days
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually (e.g., medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency)
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)

  • Acute post-op patients requiring critical care interventions
  • Care includes patients with artificial airways, invasive monitoring, transfusions, vasoactive drugs
  • Surgical specialties covered: neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, transplant (excluding open heart and liver transplants)

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with critical care skills looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity PACU setting at a Level I Trauma Center.
