ICU RN - 2E SICU

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 1:2 typical
  • 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op hearts, MTP, OPO)
  • 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
• Patient types: Cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma (level 2 trauma center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical ICU patients

Required Certifications

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• Preferred: TNCC & NIHSS

Experience Requirements

• Must have experience with high acuity ICU patient populations typical of a tertiary care center
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is not required but highly desired
• RNs must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vaso, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, milrinone)

Staffing and Support

• Charge nurse on every shift (usually does not take patient assignments unless census requires)
• Nursing House Supervisor available 24/7
• One nurse aide during day shift; typically no nurse aide at night
• Intensivist in-house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7 with full range of equipment (vents, BiPAP, CPAP, vapotherm, etc.)
• No telemetry techs on unit; RNs monitor and document their own telemetry strips (GE monitors)

Scheduling and Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730
• Staff self-schedule; agency staff scheduled to unit needs with approved RTO
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (or more if willing)
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday (or more if willing)
• No call or standby except during scheduled shift if census is low
• Floating: May float to MICU or serve as patient observer within hospital if not needed in SICU or MICU

Orientation

• One day system onboarding and CBT completion
• Two orientation shifts on unit with skills checklist completion

Additional Notes

• Clean and professional dress code; no specific scrub color required
• Must note if clinician has previously worked at this facility; if yes, previous end date must be at least 6 months prior to submission
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
