Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Arlington, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Float position (only apply if interested in floating)
  • Must have an active Virginia or Compact nursing license at submission
  • Every Other Week (EOW) schedule, no call required
  • Floating assignments include: Intermediate Care (IMC), Telemetry 1 (cardiac), Telemetry 2 (non-cardiac), Medical/Surgical (M/S)
  • Med Surg experience required to float

Required Experience & Skills

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with float experience
  • Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year in specialty due to required competencies
  • Active VA or Compact License required
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred
  • Cardiac Telemetry experience required
  • Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units required
  • Management of dysrhythmias required
  • Telemetry unit monitoring required
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams required
  • Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization experience required
  • Central Line and PICC Line care management required
  • Starting IVs preferred
  • Heparin protocols required
  • Management and titration of cardiac drips required
  • Traumatic Brain Injury care preferred
  • Peripheral Nerve Block Catheters preferred
  • Surgical drains preferred
  • Isolation precautions required
  • Wound care/Wound Vac preferred

Patient Population

  • Intermediate care unit focused on pulmonary, cardiac, and trauma patients
  • Patients may require advanced airway management (tracheostomies, ventilators, high flow O2, BiPAP)
  • Cardiac patients with CHF, MI, unstable angina, pericardial disease, cardiac drug toxicity, pacemaker/ICD issues, therapeutic catheterization, dysrhythmias
  • Med/surg overflow patients

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (preferred)
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC may be relevant depending on unit

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of I9 or attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification
  • Drug screen (11 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year, including ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit mask test within last 12 months (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), with medical/religious exemptions allowed
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccines
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination
  • Completion of facility-specific documents and policies prior to start (e.g., confidentiality, dress code, code of ethics, infection control)
  • Completion of online and/or onsite orientation including EPIC training as applicable

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Candidate must be willing and able to float to multiple units as assigned
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require documentation and agency approval
  • Candidate must wear both agency and facility badges at all times during assignment
