Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Alton, Illinois
Specialty: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry Unit)
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), Monday through Friday
- No call, no weekends
- Unit: Acute Medical Unit with Medical and Telemetry patients
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Average Daily Census: 16-18 patients
- Beds: 24
- Staffing Ratio (Nights): 1:5
- Float: Required within service line and scope
- First-time travelers accepted
- Locals accepted: No (must be outside 75-mile radius)
- Pending License: Not accepted
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (Registered Nurse experience in relevant specialty)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
Certifications Required
- Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
Clinical Skills & Responsibilities
- Care for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients with general medicine, surgical, or infectious disease diagnoses
- Telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions
- EKG rhythm identification
- Management of non-titrating cardiac drips (advanced medication infusion without increase titration; decrease/weaning allowed)
- Pre- and post-procedure evaluation and care
- Neurological assessment and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients
- Epic charting preferred
Exclusions:
- No care for patients with active and unstable gastrointestinal bleeding
- No care for patients with uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs
- No continuous NPPV (Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation)
- No administration of Tenecteplase (TNK), Insulin drip, Neosynephrine, or Nipride
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- Professional license primary source verification required (Illinois permanent license required; no pending licenses)
- NURSYS verification required
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive drug panel
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA acknowledgement, confidentiality form, latex allergy questionnaire, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
- References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
